I grew up in a Mediterranean country where I started cooking with my grandmother at a very young age.

Now that I'm a health coach, my mission is to empower you in taking responsibility for your own health and well-being.

Rules of Thumb of Healthy Eating

Health starts with how you treat your body. Having a healthy lifestyle includes:

  • Eating quality food
  • Exercising on a regular basis
  • Managing stress
  • Getting enough sleep

To eat healthy, you should always apply the following 5 rules of thumb:

1. Eat whole food rather than processed food

Whole food is food in its natural state when it is harvested such as fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains as opposed to processed food that contains high amount of sodium, sugar, fat and chemical preservatives.

2. Make plant food the main dish and animal food the side dish

Change what is on your plate so that plant food such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains becomes the main dish while animal food such as meat, poultry and fish becomes the side dish.

3. Choose organic food

Organic food is grown with natural fertilizers, no pesticide and no genetically modified organisms (GMO).

4. Choose products with the minimal number of ingredients

Ingredients are listed in order of quantity from the most to the least on labels. It is best to choose products with a minimal list of ingredients (3 to 5 whole food ingredients).

5. Enjoy your meals in no less than 20 minutes

How you eat is as important as what you eat. To ensure that your body gets all the benefits from the food you ingest, you need to take the time to enjoy your food. As a general rule, you should never finish a meal in less than 20 minutes.
